World Cup 2022 Preview: Group H – Ghana

The ‘Black Stars’ will be making their 4th World Cup appearance. Ghana, has a good record on the international competition, as they’ve made it out of the group in 2 of their 3 last appearances, and they reached the Quarter Finals in 2010, making them only the 3rd African National Team to do so. The Trip to Qatar is a few days away and Ghana will try to make an historic run once again.

Ghana is competing in group H of the 2022 World Cup, and will be facing fierce opposition this time around. The ‘Black Stars’ will make their debut on Thursday, November 24th against group favourites Portugal, this will be a tough test for the African side, but they will certainly put the European side to the test. On match-day 2, Ghana will face-off against Korea Republic in a crucial match for both teams who will look to obtain maximum points from the contest. Match-day 3 will be decisive, in a winner takes all game against Uruguay, one of the best teams in South America. Group H is one of the most attractive groups of the tournaments, and Ghana is ready for the challenge.

The manager for the Ghana National Team is former Borussia Dortmund, and Hamburger SV player, Otto Addo. The ‘Black Stars’ boss has worked mainly as a talent coach, and has a pretty good eye for emerging talent. Addo has been involved in the National Team since 2021, acting as assistant coach, and later as the interim manager. On February 2022, he took on the role permanently, as he was appointed to lead the Ghana National Team in the African Qualifiers Playoffs against Nigeria, and after two very tight games, the ‘Black Stars’ successfully punched their ticket to Qatar.

Experienced Leaders

One of the best players Ghana’s National Football Team has is Arsenal’s midfielder Thomas Partey. The ‘Gunner’ is considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the game, and he is going to play a crucial role for the ‘Black Stars’ since he gives a lot of balance to the team, and holding the middle of the field is one of his best qualities.

This team is led by experienced captain, Jordan Ayew. The Crystal Palace forward records 82 caps and 20 goals for the national team, and will be a key asset as he has long provided a strong presence upfront.

Ghana’s roster may not have the ‘biggest’ names, but they certainly have enough experience to thrive in an underdog role in this group.

Uncertain Panorama

It’s too early too call this very balanced group, but we are certain plenty of surprises await come the start of the tournament. The ‘Black Stars’ have the stamina and experience to make it out of the group, but it’s not going to be an easy task, especially since tactical discipline is not the strong suit for this squad. If they make it to the knockout stages, we wouldn’t expect the African side to make it past the last 16.
