Will Chivas Players Get Suspended After Attending A Nodal Concert?

A couple of Chivas players were spotted enjoying a night out on the town at a Christian Nodal concert. They had one of the most sought after tickets in town. Nodal was in Guadalajara from the first to 5th of October, and seemingly sold out all of his concerts. Chivas players Alan Mozo, Santiago Ormeño, and someone who maybe looks eerily similar to Pollo Briseño in a Texana hat were in the front row of the stands.

The presence of the players at the concert sparked an outrage amongst the media, and debate within the fan base. Chivas are going to be facing Puebla in the Wild Card round of Liga MX this Saturday. Although none of the players who attended the concert are starting 11 regulars, many people were quick to point out that the players had exhibited a lack of discipline and self awareness by attending the concert. On the other front certain fans claimed that the players were doing nothing wrong. At this point, their availability for Sunday’s game is presumably up in the air.

This Isn’t The Worst Thing That Chivas Players Have Been Filmed Doing

When the defense that you have against something you’ve done is that this isn’t your worst offense you’re in a tough spot. In any case, it must be said that the Chivas players were just filmed within the concert. They were not shown to be drunk or doing any type of thing that would be considered socially inappropriate. Alexis Vega, and Uriel Antuna, when he was still with Chivas, had a much worse incident involving Mexican regional music as well.

In that instance both players filmed themselves at a party drinking with friends and singing along to music. Both players were essentially suspended, but when the team started losing the suspension was lifted in the hope that they would be able to provide a spark for the squad. Also, at the time what made things potentially worse was that the pandemic was in full swing and teams had their players go through virtually daily testing to be able to play.

With that precedent in place it may be unlikely that these new offenders get suspended for the upcoming game. Although some colleagues have revealed that going to the concert was in fact against the personal conduct policy that Chivas has in place for their players.

Would The Loss Of These Players Impact Chivas’ Chances To Advance In The Playoffs?

Neither of the 3 players, Briseño, Ormeño, or Mozo are main fixtures in Ricardo Cadena’s starting 11. Ormeño is traditionally brought on in the second half to try and provide a spark for Chivas when they’re usually struggling to find the back of the net. The sad reality is that Santiago has not been able to provide a spark on a consistent basis. He’s only scored one goal in his Chivas tenure, which to his credit was the winning goal against Monterrey.

Mozo has not been a consistent figure at all during his Chivas days either. He was brought from Pumas to feed consistent crosses from the wing either to Zaldivar or Ormeño. That has not happened. The mainstream media for a while wanted Mozo to get a national team call up; however, it’s these types of off field situations that have cost him throughout his career. Along with the fact that he’s been a defensive liability at right back for most of his playing days as well.

Briseño for his part has proven time and again that he just isn’t the answer to Chivas’ defensive woes. The biggest issue with the whole concert dilemma is the optics. They added a layer of distractions and pressure to the team that it just didn’t have. They now not only contribute almost nothing on the field they contribute negatively off it. This could certainly shorten each of their tenures at Chivas. Even though two of them are new arrivals.
