Why Santi Gimenez Should Look For A Post World Cup Transfer & Leave Feyenoord

Why Santi Gimenez Should Look For A Post World Cup Transfer & Leave Feyenoord

Santi Gimenez was once again brought on to do some mop-up duty during Feyenoord’s Europa League matchup, with merely seconds on the pitch the Mexican striker found the back of the net. Just to clarify, you’re not reading an old story from the Lazio game that happened just hours ago in Feyenoord’s game against SK Sturm Graz. This time around Santi was thrown into a much more favorable situation than what he had last week in the game against Lazio. The team was already up big serving up a 4-0 shout out. He found the back of the net to make things 5-0. Ultimately the game ended 6-0 allowing Feyenoord to bounce back rather nicely after a very disappointing outing in Rome last week. Santi Giménez should maybe be grateful that he’s not getting a lot of minutes.

Santiago finds himself in one of the most awkward situations that a recent arrival to a team could hope to be in. He’s getting about 25 minutes a game in both league and cup matches. Virtually every single time that he’s seen the pitch he’s been able to find the back of the net. It would seem logical that the Mexican international should push for more minutes at Feyenoord, but at this point it may actually not be in his best interest to do so. Of course, that’s only the case if he continues to score goals every time that he’s on the pitch.

Santi Is Not Feyenoord’s Number One Option At Striker

It’s been proven time and time again that Danilo is Feyenoord’s number one option at the center forward position. Danilo has actually had a great start to the season at that spot. Even though, “everyone is part of the team”, it probably does eat at him that Giménez is kind of stealing the spotlight. We’re pretty sure that he would like to be able to make a move of his own to a top flight club. It could be argued that he’s a more refined player than Giménez at this point in his career. The thing is Santi has better press. Also, Danilo is more important to Feyenoord at this point in time. So the team would probably like to see a top offer to let him walk.

That last point is exactly why Santi shouldn’t really want to be Feyenoord’s number one striker. Since he is more marketable it’s a matter of time before a better team comes calling. With an offer of about 30 to 40 million euros that would see Feyenoord’s ROI on Santi Gimenez reach the moon! The team may be more inclined to sell Gimenez since he in fact isn’t as vital to the team. For Santi his current role is great news because that’s the role he’d have to play on a top team anyway! Just as a hunch, keep an eye on Wolverhampton after the World Cup. They understand the marketability of Mexican players, and have had a lot of success with Raul Jimenez. Currently, their striker spot isn’t solid for the future!

Why Top European Clubs Are Going To Turn Their Heads

The stats speak for themselves, Santi is making a strong case. At the same time, let’s just be honest there are not a lot of decent number 9’s walking around the world of soccer at this point in time. That’s the reason why Feyenoord took a chance on Santi in the first place. His stats at Cruz Azul weren’t jaw dropping, but they were looking for the diamond in the rough. Now Santi’s stats do wow, and it’s a matter of time before a top club comes calling. Of course, he’s gotta keep being this efficient.
