Update On The Luis Chavez Situation – Valencia Could Be An Option

The newest rumors on Luis Chavez’s potential European transfer indicate that there has been contact between representatives of LaLiga side Valencia, and higher ups at Pachuca. Chavez himself liked an Instagram post that linked him to the Spanish side. While there’s not much else to the rumors there are a couple of signs that we could read into which seem to indicate that a move to Europe is still possible for Chavez.

Chavez’s Team Wouldn’t Have Turned Down The Rayados Offer Publically

There’s one thing that makes us hopeful that talks between Pachuca and European clubs are ongoing. That is the fact that the offer made for his services by Rayados was turned down publically. If there were no real offers on the table or at least conversations with other clubs there was no need for Chavez and his team to leak to the press the news about the Rayados offer and the fact that he turned it down. He could’ve just kept that in his back pocket, and if no better offers came along he could’ve taken the money grab. Instead he decides to go public with the news that he turned down the offer. This is probably meant to signal that he’s potentially willing to take less money to head over to Europe.

Waiting For Desperate Teams On A Last Minute Transfer

To be fair, last minute buys are not necessarily desperate moves anymore. Although there have been some major busts in transfers that happened at the last minute. One of the reasons though that teams currently wait until the last minute to make certain purchases is because you’ve gotten a chance to see what your team may be lacking after having a few games post winter break.

This year it may be even more important to get a sense of what you have and what you’re missing for the final stretch of the season. Thanks to the World Cup the winter break was much longer than it usually is. So a lot of teams are just coming back and trying to find their stride. Some clubs are dealing with injuries that could also spark a transfer. For Luis Chavez all of this seems to be good news or at least a way to keep the hope alive. As we’ve been saying throughout this whole process Pachuca is a very tough negotiator. They need to make a deal that helps them keep running the team. That’s not necessarily an issue in the case of Uriel Antuna and Cruz Azul for example. It wasn’t top of mind in the Cesar Montes negotiations either.

Re-signing With Pachuca Was The Worst Move

We’ve talked about this wrinkle in the Luis Chavez situation before. His biggest problem is that he has no leverage against Pachuca to try and push them to make a potential deal because his contract runs until 2025. He actually recently resigned with the club which, if he doesn’t get to go to Europe will be the main thing that we can point to as to why.

Hindsight is 20/20, and we can guess that when he resigned he was doing so to provide himself with a safety net in case he didn’t get a chance to play at the World Cup, and his value really didn’t spike. Looking back though, he could’ve bet on himself and not signed such a long term deal. The risk of not playing in the World Cup and still having a short term deal with Pachuca doesn’t seem like a dreadful situation. He still played well in Liga MX to the point where he would’ve had offers from local clubs anyway. It’s the long term contract though that’s currently holding him back.
