No Funes Mori On The Field In The Battle Of The Twins

No Funes Mori On The Field In The Battle Of The Twins

Ramiro, and Rogelio Funes Mori are twin brothers that play for Cruz Azul, and Monterrey respectively. Despite the fact that their teams have already faced off this season in Liga MX we haven’t gotten the opportunity to see the brothers face off on the field. It would certainly be awkward for the other guys on the pitch to see a striker getting marked tightly by a guy that looks exactly like him, but a bit taller. Sadly, injuries have plagued both Funes Mori twins this season. While Rayados’ Funes Mori Rogelio is likely going to be on the bench, at least for the first leg of the series Ramiro won’t be available for Cruz Azul at all!

Which Absence Hurts Their Respective Team The Most?

Let’s be clear about this, neither of the two brothers has really been a consistent fixture for their respective squad. That being said, with some of the other injuries that Cruz Azul has it could be argued that Ramiro is going to be missed the most. Cruz Azul just had another center back come out of a game with an injury. Lucky for them Juan Escobar was able to come back and enter the game after youngster Rafael Guerrero got injured in the first minutes of the team’s matchup against Leon. Cruz Azul has left back Alejandro Mayorga hurt as well which limits the options on the defensive end.

When you look at Monterrey though you find that Aguirre, and Berterame have more or less found a partnership up front. If Rogelio Funes Mori wasn’t the all-time leading goal scorer for Rayados they may not even be thinking about putting him back on the field. What may be quite the cause for concern for Rayados was that Funes Mori did not see the field against Pachuca in the final week of the regular season like he was expected to. Ultimately head coach Victor Manuel Vucetich shrugged off the controversy of not subbing in the twin, saying the game called for other players. While that may have been the case, getting Funes Mori back to game speed just in case you need him in the playoffs could be a bit more important than that final result against Pachuca.

Can Rogelio Funes Mori Still Get A Mexico Call Up Without Seeing The Field In The Playoffs?

The answer to this question seems to be a clear yes. That may not necessarily be great news for Mexico. Head coach Gerardo Martino has made it clear that he would like Funes Mori to be part of his squad. The biggest issue for the team in general is that neither Funes Mori nor Raul Jimenez would be getting to the World Cup with too many games under their belts. With Rogelio Funes Mori’s injury history would it be a good idea to take him that rusty to the World Cup, and start him? That’s essentially asking for him to get hurt once again!

Rayados head coach Victor Vucetich said he wouldn’t necessarily hesitate to use Funes Mori in the playoffs. He’s essentially going to be coming into the first leg of the matchup a week and a half removed from when he was ready to play, and left on the bench for Monterrey against Pachuca. Maybe if things go well for Rayados he will see some game action from now until the World Cup. If that happens then this talk about him arriving rusty will go down the drain. In any case, going to the game between Cruz Azul and Monterrey this Wednesday that was expected to be a head-to-head showdown between the Funes Mori brothers, it’s looking more and more likely that neither of them will see the field.
