Expect Loans & Free Transfers This Winter – Bad News For Luis Chavez & Other Liga MX Players

Experts in the art of football transfers are expecting to see a lot of loans, and signings of free players in the current transfer window. We’ve already begun to see that type of trend with the only 2 Mexican players that have made their way to Europe in the current window. Even though Cesar Montes has an immediate buy clause that’s going to be triggered if Espanyol avoids relegation he’s in essence on loan at the Spanish club who is in real trouble of being relegated.

When it comes to Ochoa he’s in a situation where his team’s not as compromised on the table. However, if they do end up being relegated he’s going to be searching for a club over the summer. Why is this not a good idea for other Mexican players particularly Luis Chavez? Well, as Alexis Vega put it not everyone is up for a 6 month trial with a ton of pressure. Chavez’s case is even tougher though.

Pachuca’s Business Model Is Holding Luis Chavez Hostage

Pachuca Wants To Make A Big Sale, But It Doesn’t Seem Likely

We’ve talked about this already. Pachuca relies heavily on player transfers to be able to literally sustain the club. They are the team with the lowest attendance in Liga MX (that’s allowed to have fans at the stadium). Long story short, they need to continue to sell players to be able to operate the team successfully. If not the Martinez family would find themselves in the need to take money out of one pocket to put it in the other. That would pose long term issues for them. The good news for them is that Liga MX squads are still willing to pay big for Pachuca players. They just sold Victor Guzman to Chivas again! They’re hoping it sticks this time.

With foreign clubs though not willing to dish out the big bucks for players it seems like Luis Chavez is more or less stuck. His contract runs through 2025 which means that he’s got no chance to go anywhere on a free transfer any time soon. A loan with a forced buyout clause like the one that Cesar Montes signed with Espanyol could make sense for both Montes and Pachuca. He would have to go on that 6 month prove it deal though that Alexis Vega was critical of. Speaking of Alexis Vega, is he going to leave Chivas?

Antuna Mexico 2022

Vega & Antuna Are Likely Staying Put In Liga MX

We talked recently about both of these players and their transfer rumors. From the way that people in the know around Cruz Azul are handling the rumors surrounding Uriel Antuna it seems like he’s got a real chance of heading back to Europe. It would certainly make more sense for Antuna to want to head back to Europe than it does for Alexis Vega to leave Liga MX. There’s simple reasoning behind this statement. Antuna doesn’t make as much money in Liga MX so he may be more willing to give up some cash on the front end to potentially earn a move to a top European club down the road.

When it comes to Alexis Vega his salary is too high for him to consider that 6 month trial that he criticized recently. In both cases though it’s tough to see them making a move to Europe. Particularly if the offers that come in are not from big time clubs. For the most part, big time clubs have been more and more reluctant to sign players directly from American leagues. There’s still plenty of time between now and when the transfer window closes, but things are not looking great for those players left in Liga MX with a potential European future.
