Cruz Azul Welcomes 2 New Signings & Now Has A Foreign Born Players Problem

Ramiro Carrera, and Agusto Lotti have officially been announced as the 2 new signings at Cruz Azul. The pair of Argentine players are already at the team’s facilities in La Noria decked out in full team gear and going through the routine medical checkups. Carrera is touted as more of an offensive midfielder that is expected to come in and fill the void that’s potentially going to be left by Angel Romero. Lotti is a center forward that’s going to come in and compete with Michael Estrada, and Gonzalo Carneiro for a starting role in the team.

After club management was ridiculed in the media last season for having the team’s signings not show up until rather late in the season it was clear that they were determined to ensure that it wouldn’t happen again. Leave it to Cruz Azul though to find themselves in a tough spot because the signings arrived potentially too early!

The Team’s Negotiating Power With Ivan Morales Is Literally 0

Is Ivan Morales Done At Cruz Azul After Beef With Captain Chuy Corona?

We’ve been on this Morales situation for a while. When talking about his contract situation with the media in his native Chile he was clear to mention that he was contracted to the team for 3 more years. He had no intention of opting out of that contract. The team, though, needs to get him off the roster to be able to register both Carrera and Lotti due to the limited number of foreign born players that Liga MX allows teams to have.

The options at this point for Cruz Azul are either to loan him out to another team or literally pay him to not come to work. Other teams know this, so it’s highly unlikely that anyone interested in Morales would be willing to pony up much of his salary.

Angel Romero Needs To Find Himself A Team

There are still rumors going around that Cruz Azul could look to sign another foreign born player, but this time around he’d be coming from within Liga MX. The name that’s been thrown around is Matheus Doria from Santos Laguna. This means that the team would need to clear even more roster space. Ultimately the easiest way for Cruz Azul to clear up more roster space is to just let Angel Romero walk. The Paraguayan player does not have a contract with the team, and talks broke down months ago. Still, it was believed that he and his agent wanted to re-engage in talks with the Cruz Azul front office. At this point though they just don’t have roster space to fit him in!

Cristian Tabo Seems To Be The Other Player That’s Going To Look To Find A Home

If Cruz Azul wants to bring on Matheus Doria or any other foreign born player for that matter they would need to clear up another roster spot. As things stand Romero, and Morales are the two foreign born players that would get dropped from the current roster. That doesn’t mean they’d be the only ones. The team filled their 10 roster spots for foreign born players last season this means that to bring on new players they’d forcefully have to drop someone from last season’s roster. Players like Juan Escobar, and Nacho Rivero are without a doubt going to remain with the team.

New arrivals like Funes Mori, Carneiro, Estrada, and Rotondi will seemingly get a chance to stay on board. That really leaves only a few guys on the potential chopping block. Cristian Tabo was brought on board by former manager Juan Reinoso, but he hasn’t been a regular at the club at any point. Peru international center back Luis Abraham seems to be the other player on the chopping block. If Doria is the player that Cruz Azul wants to target it would make sense for him to be leaving the club. Plus, he’s on loan from Granada, so Cruz Azul could just allow him to return to the Spanish side. At this point though, we still don’t know for sure who’s in and who’s out!
