Cata Dominguez Out, Antuna Stays, New Signings Still On Ice – What’s Up With Cruz Azul

It’s a new year, but things at Cruz Azul seemingly remain a mess. We’re not going to reference the ongoing issue between the higher ups of Cruz Azul of the cement company that owns the team. Ultimately though, it’s clear that turmoil that’s been present within the company for years bleeds through to the team. Currently, there are at least 3 off the field issues that the team is having to contend with. We’re going to go over each of these issues and how they’re likely to play out!

Cata Dominguez Cruz Azul 2023

Cruz Azul Wants The League To Ban Cata Dominguez

The issue with Cata Dominguez seems to be that Cruz Azul is waiting for a ban from the league to see what they are going to do internally. That speaks volumes of where the team is in their relationship with Dominguez. If this was a player that they desperately wanted to keep they may have gotten ahead of the league and imposed some type of disciplinary action already. With the hope that the league would think that disciplinary action was ok.

As things stand though the club seems to be willing to wait for the league to come down with whatever disciplinary action it sees fit. The club will most likely stick to what the league hands down and won’t appeal. Internally there’s a good chance that what Cruz Azul ends up doing is putting a hefty fine on him. This has certainly not sat well with the fans. Particularly since the incident has not been addressed by the club at all. Raul Gutierrez was unwilling to discuss the matter in his post game press conference.

Cruz Azul essentially hopes that the league will be quick to dish out a sanction that they can abide by. So far though, as we head towards Monday afternoon the league has yet to make an official announcement regarding Dominguez’s situation. The optics are horrible for everyone involved at this point. Hopefully the league comes up with something soon!

Antuna Cruz Azul 2022

Antuna Is Not Happy About His Transfer To Greece Falling Through

Uriel Antuna took to social media today to express that they had “finally broken him”. Referencing the fact that a potential move to Greece was not going to be made. The Antuna situation though is not all Cruz Azul’s fault. Chivas still holds 50% of his value, and therefore it’s just impossible for all sides to come to an agreement. Still, Antuna’s frustration seems to be understandable.

Last night though the team really did miss him on the field. Cristian Tabo is not the answer to any question that Cruz Azul may have. The team got no depth from anyone on that right side of the attack virtually the whole game. Raul Gutierrez needs to see how he can get Antuna back mentally to have him contribute to the team.

The Reason Why No Foreign New Signings Can Play The LigaMX Preseason Cup

Where Were The New Signings?

Cruz Azul’s newest signings were apparently nowhere near Caliente Stadium in Tijuana Sunday. Liga MX says that Cruz Azul did not file the international transfer to be able to register these two players with Liga MX. The two guys have been in Mexico for months now! It’s just embarrassing to see how a club like Cruz Azul seemingly hires incompetent supporting staff. They weren’t even capable of filling the paperwork to get the money that FIFA awards to teams who have players playing in the World Cup. For a month they couldn’t sort this thing out.

On the field Cruz Azul needs quite a bit more depth. There was not a lot Potro Gutierrez could do with his bench the way that it was set up last night. Hopefully for their sake that changes moving forward. The support staff just needs to learn how to file the right paperwork!
