It was reported on Monday that veteran manager Marcelo Bielsa is on the verge of taking the Mexico’s National Team hot seat after all, even though the unexpected news are yet to be confirmed, we’ll take a look at what would this potential hire mean for the future of ‘El Tri’

More Of The Same

There’s no comparative between former Mexico manager (and close friend), Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino and Marcelo Bielsa, but a potential hire of Bielsa just feels as if the Mexican FA hasn’t learned the lesson after having a disappointing appearance at the in Qatar, their biggest World Cup failure in decades.

Bringing Bielsa on means the FMF will once again lean on a foreign manager who has null recent experience with Mexican football, and will have to start from scratch his project with a short turn around for the 2026 World Cup.

Even though Bielsa’s resume speaks for itself, there’s no real fundamental evidence behind this potential decision, and appointing him as Mexico’s National Team next manager, seems more than a long shot, than an educated decision.

Generational Change

If we’ve learned something after the Qatar 2022 outing is that Mexico’s National Team urgently needs to reinvent itself and leave behind many veterans that have dragged down this team for the last several years, and appointing an ‘Old School’ manager who knows absolutely nothing about the new generation of Mexican footballers is just incomprehensible.

Mexico’s FA needs to look for a manager who can work with young talent and pump new life inyo to this team, not just a big name that you can put the blame on if something goes wrong, and it seems as if, as always, the leaders at the FMF will never learn the lessons as to how to push this team forward.
