Are Tano Ortiz and Victor Vucetich On The Chopping Block After Losing The Semifinals?

LigaMX is always known for being a league in which fans are very passionate, and a lot of times prone to overreact. That pressure from the fans at times can force teams to make irrational decisions. Here’s why we are saying this. Club America, and Rayados had two of the very best regular seasons that you can have in Liga MX. They put up 38, and 35 points respectively. Both of them, though, got bounced in the semi finals. People are wondering today if Tano Ortiz, and Victor Manuel Vucetich should get another chance after two bad games from each of them!

The Playoffs Are Once Again Unkind To Club America

The playoffs were the Achilles heel for Santiago Solari throughout his tenure at Club America. His successor Tano Ortiz isn’t faring any better. Although he’s been able to maintain the regular season success. The problem with sacking Ortiz, and bringing on another manager is that there are no guarantees that the manager you bring will be better equipped to deal with direct elimination games that this Club America squad has shown they don’t know how to play.

Club America could look into bringing on Marcelo Gallardo who recently left River Plate. He’s probably looking to forge a career in Europe though. Marcelo Bielsa could be another of the names that will get thrown around to take the reins at Club America. Neither of the two are going to be able to guarantee playoff success. Plus, Tano Ortiz is a very young manager, and he’s shown a lot of promise. At this point it may be a good idea for Club America to take their lumps and allow Ortiz to learn on the job.

Rayados Is Going Through An Internal Rebuild They May Want To Look For A New Manager

Why Rayados Could Go On To Win The Title - The Wining Ways of Victor Manuel Vucetich

Vucetich’s situation may be a bit more complicated. It’s not just that the man who brought him on, Duilio Davino, is leaving the team as sporting director. There’s going to be a full shift in the board of directors at FEMSA. Which is the company that runs the team. They may want to bring in their own people, and start fresh.

Last night after the game Santiago Fourcade of Fox Sports, who is very well connected to the Rayados front office revealed two things. Number one is that former player, and TV personality Tato Noriega was going to be taking Duilio Davino’s spot as sporting director. Also, he mentioned that Vucetich still had a year left on his deal. He went on to say that it would be really unlikely to see him get sacked in the coming days. He’s at least going to be afforded the chance to start another season with the team. Next summer though there could be a change at the helm. Even with Vucetich still having 6 months left on his deal at that point.

Who Could Take Over?

We could essentially talk about some of the same names for Rayados, and Club America. Rayados may be more willing to take a big swing, particularly if things don’t work out with Vucetich next season. The problem for Rayados as of late though is that all of their bets on “new” coaches apart from people who have already been at the club have flopped hard. Diego Alonso, and Javier Aguirre have had to be replaced by Mohammed, and Vucetich respectively. Coaches who can be considered in-house names for Rayados. FEMSA may want to take a big swing on someone like Bielsa. It may come down to the amount of money that they want to spend on a coach, plus new transfers to inject some youth in an aging squad.
